About Our Team

MEET THE TEAM

Our Staff

Our staff members are the backbone of the day-to-day operations and impact. They are dedicated individuals who are passionate about the organization’s mission and work tirelessly to achieve its goals. They are the heart and soul of the organization, and their contributions make a significant difference in the lives of those served by the organization.

Javier Raudales, Executive Director

Javier Raudales joins us as Executive Director of Sin Barreras. A former Client Service Coordinator and most recently a board member with the organization, Javier has spent years supporting the immigrant community. He recently served as the Town Administrator of Scottsville, Virginia, and sits on several local boards, including the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority (CRHA), the Charlottesville Community Development Corporation (CCDC), and the Community Climate Collaborative (C3), where he serves on the Finance Committee. A lifelong resident of the Charlottesville area and a committed community advocate, Javier brings broad civic experience and deep local ties to his leadership at Sin Barreras.

Shirley Varela, Program Consultant

Shirley was born in Palmira, Colombia, grew up in Queens, NYC, and has lived in North Carolina for over 12 years. Her career has ranged from working with extension programs at Universities to corporate jobs in education and technology, always with a focus on program or project management. Shirley holds a MS in Family Life and Youth Development from North Carolina State University, focusing on Nonprofit Management and Latino Leadership. As an immigrant, she understands the community’s struggles and feels strongly about the power of education on the community. She believes that at Sin Barreras, we can help break the barriers and limitations that the community faces and help provide educational programs tailored to their needs.

Alejandra Gonzalez , Volunteer Coordinator

Alejandra, born in Venezuela, has a background in the arts and several years of experience as a jeweler and art studio management. She has a deep appreciation for artistic expression and cultural sensitivity. Alejandra first joined Sin Barreras as the Education & Client Services Coordinator and now leads volunteer coordination efforts across the organization’s programs.

Aidan Voparil, Office Administrator

Aidan joins Sin Barreras as the Office Administrator after spending the past two years as a middle school teacher in Albemarle County. Originally from South Florida, he later moved to Boston to attend Boston University, where he earned a B.S. in Political Science. Aidan’s passion for immigrant advocacy began in Florida, where he taught English to a small group of adult learners. He also has experience in the nonprofit sector, having founded a small organization that collected donated soccer equipment and shipped it to Bogotá, Colombia. Now at Sin Barreras, Aidan is excited to return to nonprofit work and continue supporting immigrant communities.

Aden Bilchick, Client Services Coordinator

A local to Charlottesville, Aden Bilchick is a fresh graduate from the University of Virginia with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Spanish. He is passionate about human rights causes and the field of human services, especially for marginalized and underserved communities. While in the long run he hopes to pursue a career as a mental health counselor, he is thrilled to work with Sin Barreras as a Client Services Coordinator, using his Spanish language skills to connect to the local Hispanic immigrant community and coordinate the provision of much-needed services.

Ximena Lopez, Office Support

Ximena grew up in Charlottesville and knows Sin Barreras from the other side as a client and member of our community. She is new to the nonprofit world, but has had multiple customer facing positions, and is organized and focused, which serves her well in this position
